DSLR or D-SLR stands for "Digital Single Lens Reflex" and originally referred to cameras with a folding mirror that directs the image to the viewfinder before the shutter is released and to the electronic sensor (CDD or CMOS) during exposure. However, more and more camera models are being released under the DSLR umbrella that no longer use a mirror and instead use a digital LCD or OLED-based viewfinder instead of an optical viewfinder. These cameras are called DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirroless) cameras.
