Zero Position of the Mount |
updated: 2021-08-19 |
Definition: The Zero Position is the position of the mount when
- the counterweight shaft is pointing to the ground (parallel to the north leg)
- and the telescope is pointing upwards parallel to the polar or R.A. axis
as shown in the picture left.
Zero Position is required before:
- installing the counterweight
- starting the alignment
Step 1: Physical Adjustment
This step is required if you manually moved the R.A. and DEC axis and the setting in the Go2Nova® 8407+ Hand Controller no longer corresponds with the physical Zero Position.
To re-adjust the physical Zero Position move the R.A. and DEC axis until the counterweight shaft is pointing to the ground.
You may alternatively try to use the Goto Zero Position on the Go2Nova® 8407+ Hand Controller, if the previous Zero Position is still correctly set. In this case, no further logical adjustment is required. This command moves your telescope to its Zero Position.
Step 2: Logical Adjustment
This is to align the settings of the Go2Nova® 8407+ Hand Controller with the physical Zero Position. Use Set Zero Position to set the Zero Position for the firmware.
NOTE: The Zero Position reference may be an undefined value after firmware upgrade, or it may be lost after HC battery replacement. You can use this function to set the zero position reference. Press the ENTER after moving the mount to Zero Position either manually or with the hand controller.
