Video File Processing with Registax |

Registax is a freeware stacking software and can be downloaded from: RegiStax/waveSharp- Free image processing software
Registax V6.1.0.8 is the latest and final release, maintenance was stopped in 2011. It nevertheless does a perfect job in stacking.
The software attempts to generate an optimal image from a large number of photos of the same object taken during a series of observations. Using the “shift-and-add” technique, many images are precisely aligned with one another and then averaged. Since noise is randomly distributed relative to the signal, it decreases the more photos the program can process.
To process the data, you provide the program with a video recorded during the astronomical observation of a planet or the Moon. Depending on the settings, the program processes not all of the images, but only a selection of the best ones, typically 10% of the video frames. For post-processing, it offers several interactive filter settings to optimally sharpen the result. This method is also called the Lucky Imaging Method.
